The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 2-2 following a 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. But it was a verbal back-and-forth between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy that got as much attention as the result of the game itself.<\/p>\n

During the Steelers\u2019 first drive, Rodgers shouted to the sideline at McCarthy saying, \u201cWhat the f\u2014k! Call it!\u201d Rodgers was upset at the play call taking too long. The broadcast caught his words on a hot mic, and then caught McCarthy seemingly giving it right back to Rodgers, using some colorful language of his own.<\/p>\n

When asked about the verbal exchange after the game, McCarthy said he wished he didn\u2019t use the language he used.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommunication sometimes is not the best choice of words, but everybody\u2019s competing on the field,\u201d McCarthy said via Brooke Pryor of ESPN<\/a>. \u201cI think what\u2019s said on the field, the way I grew up in this game, usually stays on the field. That\u2019s not the case today. I understand that. But any negative communication on my part, I wish I wouldn\u2019t use those words.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodgers and McCarthy were of course fine later on, embracing and laughing after Rodgers\u2019 successful quarterback sneak for a two-point conversion. This also isn\u2019t something that\u2019s unheard of in the NFL, or sports as a whole. It\u2019ll get talked about because it happened in front of a national audience, but these two have worked together for a long time – this is largely a nothing burger.<\/p>\n
