Pittsburgh Regional Transit will close the MountWashington Transit Tunnel this weekend as crews continue wrap-up work related to last year\u2019s long-term closure.<\/p>\n
The closure begins at the end of service on Friday and lasts through the start of service on Monday.<\/p>\n
All inbound and outbound light rail service will detour through Allentown, according to PRT spokesman Adam Brandolph. PRT will operate a rail shuttle between Station Square and Allegheny Station.<\/p>\n
Inbound buses will be detoured mostly through Allentown, and outbound buses will take the Wabash Tunnel.<\/p>\n
Commuters should expect delays of up to 20 minutes.<\/p>\n
The Wabash Tunnel closed for most of 2025 as contractors readjusted a section of track to ensure safety.<\/p>\n
Western Pennsylvanians should plan for the following upcoming traffic restrictions:<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh<\/p>\n
\u2022 A single-lane restriction will take place on I-376 eastbound from the North Shore exit (70C) to the Grant Street exit (71A) on Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to noon. Crews are inspecting the bridge.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Short-term lane restrictions will take place on the Tony Dorsett Drive between North Shore Drive and Reedsdale Street and Reedsdale Street between Mazeroski Way and Art Rooney Avenue beginning on Monday and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through mid-November. Crews are repairing steel under the Fort Duquesne Bridge.<\/p>\n
Allegheny County<\/p>\n
\u2022 Churchill, Wilkinsburg, Edgewood and Swissvale: The Parkway East (I-376) will be reduced to a single lane of traffic westbound between Exit 79B and Exit 77 and eastbound between Exit 77 and Exit 78B beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday and through 5 a.m. on Monday. Work is related to the $100 million Parkway East Betterment Project.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Pleasant Hills and Jefferson Hills: Route 51 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in both directions between Coal Valley Road and Fred Fiore Drive beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday and through 5 a.m. on Monday. Crews are milling and paving as part of a larger $20 million resurfacing project along Clairton Boulevard.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Robinson and Kennedy: Southbound I-79 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic between the I-376 Airport\/Pittsburgh (Exit 59 A\/B) interchange and one-half mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run\/Crafton interchange beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday and through 5 a.m. on Monday. Crews are patching the road.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Reserve: Single-lane restrictions have been extended through mid-October on Geyer Road between both intersections with Geyer Road Extension. Restrictions will continue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Crews are replacing a gas line.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Reserve: Lane closures will take place on Route 68 between Old Route 68 and Ash Stop Road beginning on Wednesday and from 7 a.m. through 3 p.m. daily through Friday. Crews are patching the deck of Route 68 and repairing pipes.<\/p>\n
Butler County<\/p>\n
\u2022 Lancaster and Jackson: East Lancaster Road will close beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Crews are repairing concrete under I-79 South in a project worth around $300,000. Commuters can follow a posted detour via Perry Highway.<\/p>\n
Fayette County<\/p>\n
\u2022 North Union: Shoulder restrictions will take place on the Route 119 Connellsville Street exit ramp beginning on Monday and through late December. Crews are completing a bridge preservation project worth $2.3 million.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Upper Tyrone and Bullskin: Single-lane restrictions will take place on Route 119 between the McClure Road intersection and Kingview\/Crossroads intersection beginning on Monday at 7 p.m. through Friday at 11 p.m. Crews are reconstructing a local interchange in a $53.9 million project that runs through 2028.<\/p>\n
Washington County<\/p>\n
\u2022 Somerset: Route 136 will close between Sundust Road and Valley View Road beginning on Monday. Workers are conducting slide repairs. Commuters can follow a posted detour via Brownlee Road, Interstate 70, Route 917 and Route 136.<\/p>\n
Westmoreland County<\/p>\n
\u2022 Rostraver: Single-lane restrictions will take place in both directions on I-70 between Exit 43 (Route 201 Fayette City) and Exit 46 (Route 51\/I-70 Interchange) beginning on Monday and daily from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Saturday.
