WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — On Monday, charter school students who live within the Whitehall-Coplay School District will have the option to take a school bus to and from school.

The move comes as a court order requires transportation to be reinstated while the battle over busing plays out in court.

This impacts charter school students who are 12 and older who reside in the district.

“There were no extra safety precautions put in by them taking LANTA. We know when we’re putting our kids on a school bus, they’re going right to the school,” said charter school parent April Crouthamel.

The issue of school busing has been front and center since the changes were made. Charter school representatives and the parents of many children who go there have been fighting back.

Six charter schools sued the Whitehall Coplay district after it stopped busing those kids as a cost-saving measure.

Two of those children are April Crouthamel’s; she says she passes younger kids still getting on the same bus her children used to take.

“You’re still going to the school. You’re not saving yourself any money by cutting busing out for my kids,” said Crouthamel.

A court order now means her children and many others will have transportation while the issue is worked out in court.

The superintendent of Whitehall-Coplay School District told 69 News:

“I can confirm that district yellow bus transportation for charter school students will resume on Monday. However, because this remains an active legal matter, district representatives will not be available for interviews or further comment at this time. We are issuing an official update to our school community, which will serve as our public position on the matter. We will also be communicating directly with affected charter school families today.”

Crouthamel is thrilled with the move and just hopes busing sticks around.

69 News additionally asked her if her kids will be taking the bus on Monday.

“They sure will be, and I cannot wait. I am so happy that this was a huge statement today and a huge win for the charter school families,” she said.

Additionally, the CEO of Seven Generations Charter School released this statement.

“We are grateful to the students, families, school leaders, and legal teams who worked together throughout this process. This Order resolves the immediate transportation issue while the underlying legal case continues.”

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — On Monday, charter school students who live within the Whitehall-Coplay School District will have…

[10
214,119,121,120,232
post-298880","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-allentown","tag-_homepage_top_stories","tag-allentown","tag-allentown-headlines","tag-allentown-news","tag-allentown-area
["GET
