The owner of a recently purchased property in Reading discovered human remains on Friday, according to the Reading Police Department.<\/p>\n
Police said that at approximately 4:46 p.m. on Oct. 2, officers were dispatched to a property in the 500 block of South 6th Street for a security check. When officers arrived, the property owner told them they had discovered what “appeared to be” human remains.<\/p>\n
Members of the Reading Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division responded and requested help from the Berks County Coroner’s Office. <\/p>\n
A deputy coroner confirmed that the remains were human, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Police said the investigation remains active, adding that the incident appears to be isolated and there is no active threat to the public.<\/p>\n
Officials said more information will be released as it becomes available.<\/p>\n
