ERIE COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) – A husband and wife died after a shooting inside an Ohio nursing home that investigators believe was a murder-suicide.<\/p>\n

According to the Sandusky Register, <\/a>Erie County sheriff’s deputies were called to The Meadows at Osborn Park shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday after staff reported hearing what sounded like two gunshots coming from a resident’s room.<\/p>\n

Investigators said a 75-year-old man had arrived at the facility to visit his 73-year-old wife, who lived there. Authorities believe the man brought a concealed handgun into the nursing home.<\/p>\n

Employees entered the room after hearing the gunfire and found both the husband and wife suffering from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

Staff members began providing medical aid while waiting for first responders.<\/p>\n

The woman was pronounced dead at the nursing home. Her husband was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where he later died.<\/p>\n

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth described the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide. Nobody else was injured.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not publicly identified the couple or disclosed what may have led to the shooting.<\/p>\n

The Meadows at Osborn Park said all other residents were safe following the incident.<\/p>\n

“During this difficult time we ask for compassion & grace,” the facility said in a statement. “All residents are safe. Please keep everyone in your thoughts & prayers.”<\/p>\n
