{"id":299464,"date":"2026-10-04T05:12:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T05:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/299464\/"},"modified":"2026-10-04T05:12:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T05:12:07","slug":"veterans-news-october-4-2026-scranton-times-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/299464\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterans News, October 4, 2026 \u2013 Scranton Times-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>American Legion District 11, Post 207 to honor 250th anniversary of U.S. and George Washington<\/p>\n<p>American Legion District 11 and West Scranton Post 207 will conduct a ceremony honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States and Gen. and President George Washington on Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. on Courthouse Square, at the George Washington statue at Linden Street and North Washington Avenue in downtown Scranton.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony will also honor Revolutionary War veterans and all veterans from all U.S. wars. It will consist of the National Anthem, pledge to the flag, opening prayer, a short program, the placing of a memorial wreath at the base of the statue, closing prayer, three rifle salutes and the playing of taps. The program should take approximately 15-20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The post is inviting all veterans organizations and the DAR to participate (Legion posts, VFWs, Marine Corps League, AMVETS, etc.) by providing firing squads and honor guards with flags. The post is trying to have 21 rifles for the rifle salute and to line the area with the veterans organization flags. Participants should report at 1:15 p.m. that day. The program presentation will be by Charles Spano, retired history teacher and veterans advocate. Rain date: Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.\n<\/p>\n<p>Post 7251 fall chicken barbecue<\/p>\n<p>Throop VFW Post 7251, Boulevard Avenue, Throop, fall chicken barbecue, Oct. 24, noon-4 p.m. Dinner includes half chicken, vegetable, baked potato, roll and cake dessert. Cost: $15. Drive thru or eat in. Tickets available at the post home.<\/p>\n<p>Post 327 Auxiliary pigs in the blanket dinner<\/p>\n<p>American Legion Auxiliary Post 327, 101 Willow Ave., Olyphant, pigs in the blanket dinner, Oct. 25, 1-5 p.m. Dinners are takeout only, donation is $15. Tickets available through auxiliary members or by calling the American Legion at 570-489-4321. Tickets will also be available at the door.<\/p>\n<p>Post 4909 Halloween party<\/p>\n<p>Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association annual Halloween party, Oct. 31, post\u2019s main banquet hall, 401 Main St., with entertainment by the Fabulous 45\u2019s. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., dinner served at 6, music from 7-10 and cash bar from 4:30-10, $30\/person. Deadline for reservations is the Wednesday before the party. Tickets cannot be sold at the door. All PLCB regulations apply. Prizes for funniest, scariest, etc., costumes will be awarded. Also, tickets for the Dec. 5 Christmas party are now available for purchase, $30, with entertainment provided by the Sperazza Band.
