Millions of people who rely on food stamps are in limbo.<\/p>\n
A federal appeals court ruled Monday morning full SNAP benefits must be paid for November.<\/p>\n
The Trump administration is expected to appeal.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, the United States Department of Agriculture instructed states to stop issuing any food stamp benefits.<\/p>\n
Several states, including Pennsylvania, had announced last week they would fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP with state funds.<\/p>\n
This, as the longest government shutdown in U.S. history\u00a0 might be approaching an end. That’s after the Senate approved a stopgap funding bill last night in a procederal vote.<\/p>\n
It’s a compromise between centrist Democrats and Republicans.<\/p>\n
The bill does not extend expiring Obamacare subsidies, so many Democrats opposed it. However, Republicans did agree to a vote on the subsidies by early next month.<\/p>\n
The bill funds much of the government through January and funds SNAP through September.<\/p>\n
For federal workers, the agreement ensures shutdown backpay. It reverses recent mass firings, and prohibits any more this fiscal year.<\/p>\n
