The multi-vehicle crash happened on the 5100 block of Westminster Avenue at approximately 1:29 p.m., according to Philadelphia Police Officer Tanya Little.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the 51-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Westminster Avenue when it struck the rear of a Nissan Sentra stopped at a red traffic signal.<\/p>\n
The Chevrolet continued on, striking a Lexus traveling eastbound on Westminster Avenue before leaving the roadway, police said.<\/p>\n
The SUV then struck a pedestrian and came to rest against a building.<\/p>\n
The Chevrolet driver was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:12 p.m., according to police. His identity had not been released as of Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The Nissan driver was evaluated at the scene and released.<\/p>\n
The Lexus driver was taken to Lankenau Medical Center in stable condition, while the pedestrian was transported to Einstein Medical Center with a leg injury, police said.<\/p>\n
What caused the Chevrolet driver to lose control remained unclear.<\/p>\n
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is investigating.<\/p>\n
