Eagles<\/a>\u2022More PHL<\/a>\u2022News<\/a>\u2022Unique Columns<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not saying that you need to take up arts and crafts on Sunday afternoons instead of watching the Birds. I\u2019m not saying that you need to throw out your midnight green jersey collection, Super Bowl LIX Memorabilia, or remove<\/a> those Eagles flags fluttering in the autumn breeze.<\/p>\n

What I am saying\u200a\u2014\u200ais that you should approach the remainder of the Eagles 2026 season with the same perspective as well\u200a\u2014\u200athe Philadelphia<\/a> Eagles themselves<\/a> have.<\/p>\n

What has changed since the the sky-high aspirations in the heat of the summer for this team\u200a\u2014\u200aisn\u2019t just a horrific 2\u20132 start to the season totally appropriate for Halloween horrors<\/a> with a near loss to the lowly Tennessee Titans, a Monday night loss to a Case Keenum<\/a>-led Chicago Bears, and virtually handing a win the the Los Angeles Rams at home<\/a>. And if that wasn\u2019t bad enough\u2026<\/p>\n

The Eagles have a line to the blue injury tent nearly<\/a> as long as the wait for the mens room at a home NFC Championship Game at the Linc. Hall of Fame Offensive Lineman Lane Johnson<\/a> retired only four games in after being inactive for the last one and Center Cam Jurgens was just traded to the Baltimore Ravens and a 2027 seventh-round Draft Pick in exchange for a fifth round 2027 Draft Selection and a 2028 second round<\/a> Draft Selection. And if that wasn\u2019t bad enough\u2026.<\/p>\n

This Eagles team has been outscored 31\u20130 in the second half in two games this season<\/a>. And until this year\u200a\u2014\u200athey have never started a season in the first three games<\/a> without forcing a turnover on defense. Not during the hapless beginning of the Eagles in the 1930s, not in the late 1960s and early 1970s with those white helmets<\/a> with green wings\u200a\u2014\u200aand not even in the late 1990s before Andy Reid began to turn the franchise<\/a> around.<\/p>\n

So what does all of this mean?<\/p>\n

It means that the Eagles have a much bigger plan. And while it may involve even more radical changes<\/a> than enduring the retirement of one of the finest lineman in franchise history and the trading away of another<\/a>\u200a\u2014\u200ayou can be sure of one thing. What it very well could mean\u200a\u2014\u200ais that the Eagles know what the Philadelphia media and fanbase has been talking about all week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Eagles may not win the NFC East in 2026. They may not be Super Bowl contenders<\/a>. They may even be home right after the Holidays until next summer.<\/p>\n

So here is another approach. Still watch every game. Still cheer every touchdown, every big play. But temper your expectations. All the while knowing that this franchise always<\/a> has a larger plan\u200a\u2014\u200aeven if it doesn\u2019t come to fruition this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Take the approach that the Eagles seem to.<\/p>\n
