More than 50 runners from local law enforcement agencies will take part in the Erie City Hometown Torch Run for Special Olympics Pennsylvania on October 14, helping bring the “Flame of Hope” through the city while raising awareness and support for local athletes.

The non-competitive ceremonial run will begin at 4 p.m. in Perry Square and travel 2.5 miles to Erie High School. Participants will be joined by local Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes and Erie High School students as they make their way across the city.

Organizers say the torch symbolizes the courage, determination and perseverance displayed by Special Olympics athletes. The event also serves as a fundraiser, helping ensure that Special Olympics Pennsylvania programs remain free for participants.

Runners will gather in Perry Square beginning at 3:30 p.m. before departing as a group at 4 p.m. The route will be completed at an approximate pace of 10 minutes per mile, with participants expected to arrive at Erie High School around 4:25 p.m.

Following the run, a pep rally honoring local Special Olympics athletes will be held at Erie High School’s football field, weather permitting. The celebration is scheduled to continue until 5:30 p.m.

The Hometown Torch Run initiative was launched in 2025 and has expanded to 10 Pennsylvania cities over the past two years. Organizers say the events have raised more than $50,000 to support Special Olympics programming across the state.

Community members are encouraged to cheer on participants along the route and join athletes, students and law enforcement officers at Erie High School for the post-run celebration.

Courtesy of Special Olympics More than 50 runners from local law enforcement agencies will take part in the…

[12
136,138,137,86986,2350,86992,124482
post-302666","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-erie","tag-erie","tag-erie-headlines","tag-erie-news","tag-flame-of-hope","tag-fundraiser","tag-special-olympics-pennsylvania","tag-torch-run
["GET
