According to Census Bureau data, Philadelphia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/philadelphia\/philadelphia-population-children-census-20261007.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">lost nearly 10% of its under-18 residents<\/a> between 2010 and 2025, with losses accelerating for children under 5 (12%), even as the city\u2019s overall population grew 3%. It\u2019s part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityandstatepa.com\/policy\/2026\/10\/ages-uncertainty\/416367\/?oref=ng-homepage-top-story\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a statewide gerontrifying trend<\/a> \u2013 and may have something to do with the School District of Philadelphia welcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/education\/handle-with-care-program-philadelphia-schools-gun-violence-20260929.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">4,236 fewer students than projected<\/a> this September.
