PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man was shot and killed by police after a confrontation on the Ben Franklin Parkway late Friday morning in Center City Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

The situation began shortly after 11 a.m. in the area of 21st and the Parkway.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement sources told Action News there was a report of a gun being fired indiscriminately.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived on scene, they shut down the area and attempted to negotiate as the man continued to point the gun at police, sources said.<\/p>\n

The situation escalated, and the man was shot by two officers after he fired at police, according to sources.<\/p>\n

Police rushed the man to Jefferson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The man’s gun, a revolver, could be seen on the ground after the shooting.<\/p>\n

Video from Chopper 6 showed multiple police and SWAT officers on the scene.<\/p>\n

The Parkway is shut down in the area.<\/p>\n
