Harvey Glickenstein passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, at the age of 84. Born in the Bronx, New York, Harvey led an adventurous and principled life defined by curiosity, compassion, and a lifelong love of trains.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen May Glickenstein (n\u00e9e Molis); his sister, Yvette Gralla (n\u00e9e Glickenstein); his son, David Glickenstein, and daughter-in-law, Tricia Haynes; and granddaughters, Allie and Maddie Glickenstein.<\/p>\n
Harvey\u2019s professional journey spanned continents and railways. Starting with his work at the New York Central Railroad, he held a variety of roles in the railroad industry across the U.S. and abroad. He was always driven by a passion for making transportation safer and more welcoming for passengers. Harvey was a problem-solver at heart\u2014known for asking, \u201cHow do we make this work?\u201d\u2014and he always found a way to do it safely.<\/p>\n
For 30 years, Harvey penned the \u201cLand Transportation\u201d column for IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, where his writing reflected his broad interests and infectious enthusiasm. As one tribute noted, \u201cWhat makes Harvey\u2019s column so readable is that it reflects his broad background of interests, his enthusiasm to learn and share with us.\u201d<\/p>\n
A founder of the Vehicular Technology Society\u2019s Philadelphia chapter and a founding member of Congregation Tifereth Israel, Harvey was deeply committed to community, equality, and integrity. He stood by his principles and lived with purpose.<\/p>\n
Harvey was a tireless walker\u2014whether pacing train platforms, exploring city stations, or hiking forest trails\u2014and a voracious reader of science fiction, history, technology, fantasy, biography, and puzzles. He traveled the world, especially by train, always eager to learn and connect.<\/p>\n
He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his unwavering values, and his radiant smile that lit up every room.<\/p>\n
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Goldsteins\u2019 Rosenberg\u2019s, 310 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966.<\/p>\n
