an ABC affiliate in Erie, reports police were called to the city\u2019s East Side just before 5 p.m. after gunfire rang out.<\/a><\/p>\nErie Police Chief Rick Lorah told WJET repeatedly that the number of lives lost at the 700 block of Perry Street was not only devastating but the crime scene was by far the worst one he has ever seen in his law enforcement career.<\/p>\n
Reports from Erie<\/p>\n
The first reports made to police were of two women who had been shot outside a home on Perry Street.<\/p>\n
According to WJET, witnesses then told police the gunman ran into a nearby house.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hearts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy. There are no words that can be adequately expressed the magnitude of the loss of life here,\u201d said Chief Lorah.<\/p>\n
Officers surrounded the home and forced their way inside after securing a warrant. <\/p>\n
Once inside, sources told WJET there were multiple bodies, including the bodies of two small children.<\/p>\n
“Horrific scene”<\/p>\n
\u201dYeah, it\u2019s a horrific scene,\u201d replied Lorah. \u201cThere was a large loss of life inside that residence and outside that residence.\u201d Lorah then went on to say, \u201cI can\u2019t confirm or deny the amount of individuals that were involved here. I can tell you that this is a tragic, tragic situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lorah told WJET the suspect is dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. <\/p>\n

An investigation into what led to the shooting is still ongoing.
