Police were called to the 700 block of Perry Street, on Erie\u2019s East Side, where officers found two mortally wounded women outside a residence, authorities confirmed, YourErie reported.<\/p>\n

A neighbor told investigators that a man had shot the pair before going into the house, Lorah said. <\/p>\n

Responding officers surrounded the building as the emergency developed into a SWAT operation.<\/p>\n

After securing a warrant, police forced their way inside. <\/p>\n

More victims were discovered in different parts of the property, with local law-enforcement sources saying two small children were among them, YourErie anchor Jennifer Mobilia reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Police had not publicly confirmed the death toll by late Friday, and Lorah declined to give a precise figure, although local reports from Your Erie Now suggest it could be at least nine, including the shooter.<\/p>\n

The suspected attacker was found with a gun and appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the chief. <\/p>\n

Police Describe A Devastating Scene<\/p>\n

Lorah said the circumstances surrounding the \u201cmost difficult and heartbreaking\u201d scene were deeply disturbing and acknowledged the effect on the officers and detectives processing the home. <\/p>\n

Lorah said officers would receive counseling for what they had witnessed at the scene.<\/p>\n

Investigators began interviewing relatives and other potential witnesses while forensic teams examined the residence’s interior and exterior. <\/p>\n

No motive had been established. \u201cWe will not speculate about a motive, or at least information that could compromise this investigation,\u201d Lorah said.<\/p>\n

No Continuing Threat<\/p>\n

The City of Erie said the situation had been contained and there was no ongoing danger to residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone impacted by tonight\u2019s tragedy,\u201d its statement said.<\/p>\n

Mayor Daria Devlin described the shooting as a \u201cterrible tragedy\u201d and said officials would provide verified updates when they became available.<\/p>\n
