{"id":303938,"date":"2026-10-10T18:56:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T18:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/303938\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T18:56:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T18:56:08","slug":"police-officer-dies-after-west-philadelphia-shooting-another-injured-with-12-gunshot-wounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/303938\/","title":{"rendered":"Police officer dies after West Philadelphia shooting; another injured with 12 gunshot wounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) &#8212; A Philadelphia police officer has died after a shooting early Saturday morning in <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/place\/west-philadelphia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Philadelphia<\/a> that left another officer injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Officer Shane Seiber, 40, a 10-year veteran of the force, died at the hospital after being shot three times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Commissioner Kevin Bethel said Seiber&#8217;s wife and other family members were able to be by his side before he passed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Seiber leaves behind a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter, Bethel said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;This will be a period of mourning for us, but we will stand tall as a department and get through this together,&#8221; Bethel said.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner Bethel announces officer&#8217;s death after West Philadelphia shooting<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The other officer who was shot was wounded 12 times. That officer, a 33-year-old with five children, is currently hospitalized in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;He&#8217;s not out of the woods yet, but he is stable,&#8221; Bethel said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A suspect has been taken into custody and officials say charges are pending. The suspect&#8217;s name has not been released.<\/p>\n<p>Chopper 6 was over the procession for an officer killed in a shooting early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Police were dispatched to the 100 block of North 52nd Street shortly after 12:20 a.m. for a report of a man with a gun on a porch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The officers arrived around 30 minutes later and were shot soon after stepping foot onto the porch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Officials say the suspect took off down an alleyway and shot multiple times at other officers, who were not hit.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cherelle Parker delivers remarks at a news conference announcing the death of a Philadelphia police officer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">There was a search and a neighborhood lockdown as police searched for the gunman, who was eventually taken into custody after falling out of a tree.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Officers recovered two handguns and a shotgun.  Bethel said one of those handguns belonged to an officer who had been shot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Pennsylvania Gov.
