ALLENTOWN, Pa. \u2014 The American Red Cross is helping more than three dozen people affected by house fires in Lehigh and Berks counties over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The American Red Cross said volunteers helped 18 people affected by the fire Saturday along South Saint Cloud Street in Allentown.<\/a><\/p>\n

The American Red Cross said its volunteers assisted 25 people affected by the fire Sunday on North Ninth Street in Reading.<\/a><\/p>\n

The American Red Cross says it can provide a safe place to stay, financial assistance and emotional support after local disasters such as home fires.<\/p>\n

“We are so grateful for our volunteers who continually step up to help their community in times of need. These compassionate neighbors provide immediate care, comfort, and resources to families in crisis,” said Peter Brown, executive director of the American Red Cross Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter.<\/p>\n

Four residents, including a juvenile, were rescued at the Reading fire and taken to a hospital, officials said.<\/p>\n

A man said his brother-in-law was inside and had to be rescued.<\/p>\n

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze; one was injured while rescuing a child, Reading Fire Marshal Jeremy Searfoss said.<\/p>\n
