A 15-year-old is facing multiple charges, including attempted homicide, after a shooting outside Cupples Stadium injured three teens following a football game.<\/p>\n

A 15-year-old boy is now in custody in connection with a shooting outside Cupples Stadium<\/a> in Pittsburgh’s South Side that injured three teenagers after a high school football game.<\/p>\n

According to the criminal complaint, Charles Lawshe faces three counts of attempted homicide, three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a minor and carrying a firearm without a license. Authorities say he turned himself in at the Municipal Court building.<\/p>\n

Police identified Lawshe through surveillance video and witness accounts. Footage shows him and three others walking on the sidewalk in front of the First National Bank about 20 minutes before the shooting. After the incident, the video shows Lawshe fleeing the scene toward the back of the bank. <\/p>\n

The shooting occurred on Oct. 1 after a football game between Westinghouse and University Prep. Shots were fired as people were leaving<\/a> the stadium, and police were attempting to break up a fight. Three teenagers were shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition. <\/p>\n

Investigators recovered a firearm, three empty shell casings, and a pair of eyeglasses at the scene. Those items were sent for ballistic testing and processing. <\/p>\n

Records show Lawshe has a Carrick address, which is outside the neighborhood attendance area for Westinghouse and University Prep.<\/p>\n

“Prior to this allegation, he was a straight-A student at Carrick High School. No criminal history, no juvenile history, soft-spoken kid, doesn’t say a whole lot, shy, and this came as a big surprise to him and his family, so we’re taking the proper steps in order to rectify the situation,” said Lawshe\u2019s attorney, Casey White.<\/p>\n

Employees near the stadium expressed concerns about increasing gun violence in the area.<\/p>\n

“It’s different. When I moved here, probably five years ago, it wasn’t like this before. It’s just recently more on Carson Street. They’ve been closing the streets because of every weekend there’s someone that has died or a shooting,” said Ruth Rodriguez, an employee at Cilantro & Ajo.<\/p>\n

White said he learned of the charges Monday evening, and the family arranged for Lawshe to turn himself in on Tuesday. He emphasized that surveillance video is central to the case. <\/p>\n

“Reading the affidavit of probable cause and the criminal complaint, it comes down to identification. There’s some surveillance video that was derived or seized by law enforcement, and there’s significant amounts, and they’ve shown that surveillance video to some witnesses. It appears that some witnesses aren’t sure about their identification of who’s who,” White said.<\/p>\n

According to the affidavit, one of the victims said that the teen in the video resembled Lawshe but could not be certain without a front-angle view of his face. Another victim identified him and said they knew him through their employment.<\/p>\n

Response from Pittsburgh Public Schools<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Pittsburgh schools confirmed that Lawshe was not enrolled at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n

In response to the shooting, Pittsburgh Public Schools announced new safety measures for events at Cupples Stadium<\/a>. As of last Thursday, students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older, who must remain in the stadium throughout the event. Additionally, all students are required to present a valid student ID to enter the stadium. <\/p>\n

Starting this Thursday, a clear bag policy will also be implemented.
