This year’s pick, Rosemary’s Baby, is a classic psychological horror book that’s equal parts creepy and brilliant, allowing the novel to become a classic of the genre.

Originally released in 1967, the novel follows Rosemary Woodhouse and her husband, Guy, as they move into their new home at Bramford, an old New York City apartment building with a mysterious reputation. Wanting to start a family, Rosemary is held back by her struggling actor husband’s insistence that they wait until his career begins to take shape.

After meeting their elderly and eccentric neighbors, the Castevets, Rosemary is wary of their interest, but her husband immediately befriends the elderly duo. Guy quickly lands a leading role on Broadway thanks to abnormal circumstances that render the lead actor unable to perform, and Rosemary becomes pregnant shortly after.

The Castevets interest in the Woodhouses only deepens thanks to her pregnancy, and as Rosemary finds herself becoming more isolated and frequently ill as the pregnancy continues, she begins to wonder if the Castevets and their circle of friends are not entirely what they seem.

Mysterious, unsettling, and downright eerie at times, this novel is the perfect read for this month’s book club. Reader be warned, as the psychological horror contained within may make your skin crawl but will leave you wanting more.

1 p.m. // Werner Books and Coffee, 3608 Liberty St. // Free to join, cost of book not included // For more info: wernerbooks.com

Random House SUNDAY, OCT. 25 The Erie Reader Book Club will be reading and discussing Rosemary’s Baby by…

[12
136,138,137,20790,125610,125609,12068
post-306160","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-erie","tag-erie","tag-erie-headlines","tag-erie-news","tag-erie-reader-book-club","tag-ira-levin","tag-rosemarys-baby","tag-werner-books-and-coffee
["GET
