CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Six Flags Entertainment, the parent company of Dorney Park, tells 69 News it is “committed to rigorous ride inspection” and other safety procedures following\u00a0an incident at one of its parks that resulted in the death of a rollercoaster rider.<\/p>\n
Monday’s incident at Six Flags Over Georgia is under investigation. According to witnesses and police, a rider on the park’s Goliath coaster was ejected from his seat and\u00a0struck several other riders before falling beneath the ride. He has been identified as\u00a0Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, of Atlanta.<\/p>\n
Six Flags told 69 News it closed similar attractions across its park system out of an abundance of caution, including a roller coaster at its Great Adventure location in Jackson, New Jersey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to ABC News, all but one of the coasters- the Goliath coaster at Magic Mountain- were manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, which has designed coasters for many Six Flags parks and other amusement parks around the world since 1988.<\/p>\n
Six Flags is the parent company of Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in South Whitehall Township. A spokesperson told 69 News there are\u00a0no related ride closures or changes at Dorney Park following Monday\u2019s incident.<\/p>\n
69 News also asked Six Flags if any additional safety checks would be conducted on Dorney’s rides. The spokesperson said, while the company could not comment on specifics, “The safety of our guests and associates is our highest priority.”<\/p>\n
In addition, Six Flags is “committed to rigorous ride inspection, maintenance and safety procedures that meet or exceed industry standards,” the spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Dorney Park currently has eight roller coasters, with the newest- Iron Menace- added in 2024. The park is currently operating on its fall schedule and is open only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through early November.<\/p>\n
Shares of Six Flags (NYSE: FUN) have sunk to their lowest point in 16 years. They were listed at $9.39 early Wednesday afternoon, which gives the company a market capitalization of $1.04 billion.<\/p>\n
While the rider fatality on Monday may have negatively impacted the company’s stock price, financial woes have been building for years. Shares are down more than 55% from a year ago, and down nearly 80% from five years ago.<\/p>\n
