Pittsburgh EMS officials unveiled the city’s first public automated external defibrillator on Wednesday at Frankie Pace Park in the Lower Hill District.<\/p>\n

The AED offers step-by-step audio and visual prompts, as well as real-time corrective feedback, to guide users during emergencies. It will be accessible around the clock, providing immediate access for patients in cardiac arrest during the critical moments before first responders arrive. <\/p>\n

“We’re now adding resources to the public so that, when there are those critical seconds, that you have the access to save someone’s life as well,” Mayor Corey O’Connor said.<\/p>\n

The dedication also acknowledged that this milestone comes nearly 60 years after the Hill District’s Freedom House Ambulance Service<\/a> helped pioneer the model for modern first responders.<\/p>\n
