A law enforcement source says that investigators found bones at the house on Chew Avenue in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The medical examiner was in the backyard of the house on Thursday, Oct. 15, working to determine if the bones were animal or human, the source said. Investigators have previously found animal bones before.<\/p>\n

This development comes as investigators have been working to dig up the backyard using heavy equipment to excavate large portions of the property on 417 West Chew Avenue while investigators search for evidence and\u00a0any signs of human remains<\/a>, according to law enforcement sources.<\/p>\n

NBC10\u2019s DroneForce10 captured the extent of the excavation from above on Oct. 14, showing an excavator tearing through the backyard and large holes surrounding the home. Investigators also searched an area where a shed previously stood.<\/p>\n

The home once belonged to Raymond \u201cR.C.\u201d Horsch, who died in 2025 at age 82. Police have said they have video and photo evidence suggesting\u00a0Horsch might have been involved in the deaths of five women.<\/a><\/p>\n

The digging behind the house was expected to continue through Oct. 21, according to a law enforcement source and new parking restrictions put in place Wednesday. Crews will also dig in a small yard in front of the property.<\/p>\n

Investigators are also examining evidence recovered from inside the home.<\/p>\n

Two law enforcement sources told NBC10 that searches this week revealed locations of DNA, though investigators have not determined whose DNA it is.<\/p>\n

Investigators are also reviewing previously seized evidence, including lab equipment and chemicals removed from the basement, according to law enforcement sources. Testing on those items is underway.<\/p>\n

The Chew Avenue property has been under 24-hour surveillance since late June, after the arrest of Horsch\u2019s son, Eugene Horsch, on separate charges of impersonating a federal agent.<\/p>\n

According to the original police report, a woman who was with the younger Horsch provided police with an identification card belonging to another woman who had been missing for years. That discovery eventually led investigators to the Chew Avenue property.<\/p>\n

Since then, the investigation has expanded to include seven missing women.<\/p>\n

Eugene Horsch, who inherited the property after his father’s death, remained in custody on federal charges connected to his June arrest involving false credentials and firearms. He faces no charges connected to the missing women. His attorney has told NBC10 his client had no involvement in relation to the raids and searches at the house.<\/p>\n
