Starting next Monday, crews will get to work on a mill and repave project on Village Center Drive outside of the Pittsburgh Mills Mall. It will be the first of the pothole-plagued roads on the property to see a long-term fix. “Maybe they’ll do it right this time,” said Frazer Township resident Lorry Gunter.According to the Frazer Township Police Department, the outbound lane of Village Center Drive will be closed for the work from Nov. 17-18, before the inbound lane closes Nov. 19-20. “Mostly we go to Lowe’s, but you have to kind of like zigzag around to get even to Lowe’s, so that it’s, you know, you’re not hitting those giant potholes that will eat your car up,” Gunter said of her experience driving around the Pittsburgh Mills. Namdar Realty Group, the owner of the mall property, is responsible for getting the project done. Frazer Township Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer William Payne said the company has been hit with about 400 citations since April, in addition to a lawsuit, all due in part to the road conditions. “It’s become a safety hazard,” Payne told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. “There was one point in time where the potholes got so bad on the Mills Drive rear entrance of the mall, that the fire department were no longer able to access that entrance. So, that’s whenever they did the temporary pothole filling.”The potholes have driven some shoppers away, too. “People just say, ‘I’m not going to go there, I’ll go to Fox Chapel,” Gunter said. Saville said she’s opted for other locations. “We were actually going to the ALDI in Lower Burrell or Tarentum, in the Giant Eagle there because I just didn’t want to come out here anymore,” Saville said. Galleria Drive is scheduled to be re-paved next Friday, Nov. 21. Drivers are encouraged to use respective detours on Value Drive and Pittsburgh Mills Circle as the work on both roads gets underway. “Especially with the seasons coming up with Christmas and everything, people want to go shopping, they don’t want to come up here and hit all these potholes and then have to fix their cars,” Saville said. According to Payne, Namdar told the township, it plans to take care of the other potholes next paving season. The company did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

      FRAZER TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A long-awaited solution to the pothole problem at the Pittsburgh Mills is coming soon.

“This is ridiculous, and I’m very thankful that they’re doing something now,” said Julie Saville of Plum.

Starting next Monday, crews will get to work on a mill and repave project on Village Center Drive outside of the Pittsburgh Mills Mall.
