PITTSBURGH \u2014 The Alzheimer\u2019s Association Walk to End Alzheimer\u2019s \u2013 Pittsburgh returns Saturday at Flagstaff Hill Pavilion at Schenley Park. <\/p>\n
The opening ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the start of the walk at 11 a.m. Organizers have established a fundraising goal of $1 million to support Alzheimer\u2019s care, support and research.<\/p>\n
The Pittsburgh walk is designated as one of the top 30 Walk to End Alzheimer\u2019s events in the United States. <\/p>\n
During the event, participants take part in the Promise Garden ceremony, carrying different colored flowers that represent their personal connections to the disease. <\/p>\n
Lynzy Groves serves as the development director for the Alzheimer\u2019s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter. <\/p>\n
\u201cEvery person who registers, raises funds or joins us on Walk day helps move us closer to a world without Alzheimer\u2019s and all other dementia,\u201d Groves said. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the Pittsburgh community\u2019s continued support and invite everyone to be part of this meaningful day of hope, remembrance and action.\u201d <\/p>\n
The walk comes as Alzheimer\u2019s disease affects millions across the nation. More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer\u2019s disease, which is a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to individuals living with Alzheimer\u2019s and other dementias.<\/p>\n
In Pennsylvania, more than 282,000 people live with Alzheimer\u2019s disease, supported by 465,000 caregivers.<\/p>\n
