And for some customers, it means having to find an alternative to a brand they’ve used for years.

“Act 57 puts into place a directory of vape and e-cigarette products that are permissible for sale in Pennsylvania,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday says. “Products not on the directory are prohibited from being for sale in stores.”

Some of the biggest names in disposable vapes are now missing from Pennsylvania’s approved directory, that includes Geek Bar, Elf Bar, Flair products, and Lost Mary.

But the law doesn’t ban vaping altogether. Certain products from brands like JUUL, Vuse, and NJOY are on the state’s approved list.

Attorney General Dave Sunday says this law aims to keep vapes out of the wrong hands.

“When it comes to vapes and e-cigarettes, these products are often marketed to attract children with their candy-like flavors and packaging and even video games available on the devices,” AG Sunday says.

Some Lehigh Valley vape shops who spoke with 69 News off camera have already removed products that aren’t on the state’s list. But they say having fewer products to sell is hurting their revenue and leaving some longtime customers scrambling to find alternatives.

They say some customers didn’t even know about the changes until they went in to buy their usual vapes and were shocked to find them unavailable.

Others, they say, have been stocking up in anticipation of the ban.

“Many of these products which have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration are produced in China with little concern for the health and safety of the people who use them. That concerns me, and it should concern parents, families and all consumers,” AG Sunday says.

The Attorney General’s Office says the goal is to keep products that don’t meet its requirements off store shelves.

Retailers and customers can check the state’s online directory to see which specific products are still allowed.

A new Pennsylvania law took effect Monday, forcing vape shops to pull certain products from their shelves.
