{"id":314479,"date":"2026-10-26T11:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T11:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/314479\/"},"modified":"2026-10-26T11:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T11:52:10","slug":"man-sentenced-to-prison-for-stabbing-his-uncle-8-times-in-cumru-township","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/314479\/","title":{"rendered":"Man sentenced to prison for stabbing his uncle 8 times in Cumru Township"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man has been sentenced to 13 1\/2 to 30 years in state prison for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingeagle.com\/2025\/10\/21\/suspect-in-cumru-township-stabbing-in-custody-in-maryland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stabbing<\/a> his uncle eight times in Cumru Township in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>James Rice, 41, was sentenced Friday by Berks County Judge Eleni Dimitriou Geishauser.<\/p>\n<p>Rice was convicted in September of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime and defiant trespassing.<\/p>\n<p>District Attorney John T. Adams previously said Rice confronted his 61-year-old uncle for not telling him that his grandmother had died about a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Adams said Rice went to the uncle\u2019s house, confronted his uncle and stabbed him.<\/p>\n<p>According to authorities:<\/p>\n<p>Cumru police were dispatched Oct. 20, 2025, at 4:40 p.m. to the 1700 block of Acorn Drive for a report of an assault involving the stabbing of a man.<\/p>\n<p>Officers found the victim alert and conscious, suffering from multiple stab wounds.<\/p>\n<p>He told police that he had been stabbed by Rice, his nephew, who had no permanent address at the time.
