{"id":315449,"date":"2026-10-27T17:10:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-27T17:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/315449\/"},"modified":"2026-10-27T17:10:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T17:10:07","slug":"sources-police-oversight-commission-chair-accused-of-selling-confidential-info-through-public-defender-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/315449\/","title":{"rendered":"Sources: Police Oversight Commission chair accused of selling confidential info through public defender job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 The chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/topic\/citizens-police-oversight-commission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Philadelphia Citizens Police Oversight Commission<\/a> was arrested on bribery charges Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Hassan Bennett, 43, faces charges in connection with selling confidential information he obtained through his job as a bail navigator at the Defender Association of Philadelphia, sources say.<\/p>\n<p>Bennett has been on the Citizens Police Oversight Committee (CPOC) since it was formed four years ago. It was intended as a police reform measure \u2014 replacing what many considered a toothless police advisory board \u2014 but it has been marked with turbulence, including multiple resignations and expulsions. <\/p>\n<p>Only six of its nine seats are filled. Bennett became chair in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Bennett was seen as a good choice for the commission because of his own involvement in the criminal justice system. He was convicted of murder in 2008 and served 11 years in prison before being granted a new trial and acquitted in 2019.
