Editor: The overriding theme in the Republican attack ads on Paige Cognetti who is running for the 8th Congressional District is that she is someone wishing to move up\/move forward\/move on professionally. Isn\u2019t this a good thing for someone to want to do? Unless that someone is a woman, then it seems to be especially egregious? The nerve! \u00a0Never mind that she has been successful in her endeavors including bringing the city of Scranton back from the brink. But no, let\u2019s pile on \u2013 a woman thinks she can serve her community in another position.<\/p>\n
Their main attack is that she has had several positions in the past 19 years and is looking to fill another. She has a unique set of qualifications to be successful as our Congressperson. Why is ambition used in this instance as a pejorative, negatively aimed at a woman? \u00a0What are they so afraid of? \u00a0That\u2019s what I want in a leader. Don\u2019t you want that too? \u00a0She is someone who can lead so much more effectively and independently than our current Congressman. Looking at his Congressional votes, he has been Trumped many times into not being someone who leads for us, voting against what we need like healthcare. Let\u2019s turn to someone who has been an effective leader. Vote blue. Elect Paige.<\/p>\n
