{"id":315779,"date":"2026-10-28T02:46:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-28T02:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/315779\/"},"modified":"2026-10-28T02:46:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-28T02:46:07","slug":"bail-navigator-hassan-bennett-faces-bribery-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/315779\/","title":{"rendered":"Bail navigator Hassan Bennett faces bribery charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>The chair of the Philadelphia Citizens Police Oversight Commission has been criminally charged with selling sensitive witness information in an attempted murder case, the District Attorney\u2019s Office said Tuesday.\n<\/p>\n<p>Hassan Bennett, who also worked as a bail navigator with the Defender Association of Philadelphia, faces charges of bribery and witness intimidation.\n<\/p>\n<p>District Attorney Larry Krasner said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/philaDAO\/videos\/2182230576025151\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a news conference that<\/a> Bennett provided documents to Thomas Scott, a man who publicly threatened the witness on social media.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Investigators said Bennett, 43, used his position as a public defender to access the city\u2019s case management system. An audit log showed he accessed the materials \u2014\u00a0which \u201ccould only come from an individual that was acting in Mr. Bennett\u2019s position,\u201d according to Krasner\u2019s office.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a fundamental blow at the heart of the criminal justice system when people engage in the intimidation of witnesses,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cEven more so when the case involves extreme violence. It obstructs justice.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Bennett allegedly gave Scott the witness\u2019s full name and read him the unredacted arrest report.
