EXETER TWP., Pa. \u2013 For seven years, Jeff Witman and his family have been scaring the neighborhood with their homemade haunted house in Exeter Township.<\/p>\n
“We just enjoy doing things for Halloween\u2026for the neighborhood,” Witman said.<\/p>\n
He said it all began with his son’s love of Halloween.<\/p>\n
“It started with my son saying, \u2018Dad, I want to do a haunted house.\u2019 And I’m like, \u2018OK, let’s do it,\u2019” Witman said.<\/p>\n
Now, the house has become a family tradition, with everyone from his son to his grandkids taking part in building.<\/p>\n
“In the graveyard that you saw back, it was his idea with the dogs pulling the skeleton, so it was totally his idea,” Witman said.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a family effort to scare those brave enough to walk through.<\/p>\n
“I hope the kids will like it,” said Witman.<\/p>\n
He said they’re expecting over a hundred people at the house on Halloween night. Every year, the haunted house only gets bigger and better, he said.<\/p>\n
“This is about three times the size of the original one,\u201d Witman said. \u201cIt goes from the front yard to the backyard, and it started just in the backyard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Witman said his family is not slowing down anytime soon. The neighborhood kids will continue to have something unique for Halloween.<\/p>\n
“When we’re building it, they come up and say stuff to us: \u2018I can’t wait for you to get it done,\u2019” Witman said.<\/p>\n
Even after nearly a decade, he said watching people walk through never gets old.<\/p>\n
“I sit out in the driveway and listen to ’em scream,” Witman said.<\/p>\n
The haunted house at 100 E. 37th St. is free to walk through on Friday and Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n
