Nearly 2 million Pennsylvania voters<\/a> voted by mail in the 2024 general election \u2014\u00a0an option available to all Pennsylvania voters since 2020.\n<\/p>\n

Voters in each of the commonwealth\u2019s 67 counties can track their mail or absentee ballot status via an online search tool from Pennsylvania\u2019s Department of State<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

If a voter submits a flawed mail ballot, counties must notify voters that it will be rejected, per a 2025 Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

Most of the state\u2019s 67 counties<\/a> allow voters to correct errors on submitted mail ballots through a \u201cnotice-and-cure\u201d process.\n <\/p>\n

Other counties notify voters that their mail ballot is rejected and provide instructions on voting by provisional ballot on Election Day.\n<\/p>\n

Voters who vote by mail and are notified of errors that would prevent their ballot from being counted can cast a provisional ballot at the polls on Election Day. The state Supreme Court ruled<\/a> that provisional ballots from those voters must be counted.\n<\/p>\n

Bucks<\/a>, Chester<\/a>, Delaware<\/a> and Montgomery<\/a> counties, as well as Philadelphia<\/a>, all follow a notice-and-cure process. The counties\u2019 boards of elections notify voters whose mail ballots were filed with errors and allow them to \u201ccure,\u201d or fix, the ballot.\n<\/p>\n

Below is a breakdown of the process for \u201ccuring\u201d defective mail ballots in Philadelphia and its four collar counties.
