A Scranton man fled police as they were attempting to stop him and then resisted arrest, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Tyler Ovens, 20, faces a felony charge of fleeing and eluding police following the Saturday incident.<\/p>\n
According to the criminal complaint, city officers were on patrol near Luzerne Street and Railroad Avenue just after midnight when they spotted Ovens in a pickup truck, which they recognized from another incident.<\/p>\n
Police followed Ovens into the West Side Beer parking lot, where he stopped briefly before heading north on Main Avenue.<\/p>\n
Officer Richard Stevens activated his emergency lights and sirens, but Ovens failed to stop, instead continuing through the city, changing lanes and passing other vehicles.<\/p>\n
He turned into the Family Dollar parking lot, proceeded onto Swetland Street toward Jackson Street and through the Wells Fargo parking lot during the pursuit.<\/p>\n
Other officers joined the pursuit, which was soon terminated due to safety reasons, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Officers soon spotted the truck again near Cedar and Main avenues, and followed him to Hertz Court, where he stopped.<\/p>\n
Officers ordered Ovens out of the vehicle and he initially complied, but then resisted officers\u2019 efforts to secure his hands as he was being handcuffed, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers noted Ovens had red, glossy eyes and smelled of alcohol. They\u00a0spotted two open beer containers inside the truck.<\/p>\n
Ovens is also charged with resisting arrest, driving under the influence, careless driving and failing to appropriately use his turn signal.<\/p>\n
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.<\/p>\n
