More than 900\u00a0runners, walkers, volunteers,\u00a0and community supporters gathered at Reading Hospital on Oct. 18 for the 2026 Reading Hospital Road Run. The event raised an estimated $40,000 to support Reading Hospital\u2019s Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.<\/p>\n
A longstanding Berks County tradition, the Reading Hospital Road Run brings together participants of all ages and abilities\u00a0for\u00a0a variety of races,\u00a0walking events, and family-fun activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust days after breaking ground on the new John and MaryAnne Post Center for Emergency Care, we\u2019re reminded that\u00a0events\u00a0like these are only possible because of the incredible generosity of our community,\u201d said Katherine E. Thornton,\u00a0President of the Reading Hospital Foundation. \u201cWe are deeply grateful to every participant, volunteer, sponsor,\u00a0and donor who made this year\u2019s event a success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Funds raised through the\u00a0race\u00a0will\u00a0help advance Reading Hospital\u2019s Emergency Department expansion project and strengthen critical care services, ensuring patients and families throughout\u00a0the\u00a0region have access to the care they\u00a0need.<\/p>\n
Among the many inspiring stories from race day was local runner Adam Hughes, who celebrated his 50th half marathon at this year\u2019s event. A longtime Reading Hospital Road Run participant, Hughes has completed the race\u2019s half marathon for 10 consecutive years despite numerous injuries and setbacks along the way.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look forward to running in this race every year, and as a longtime emergency care physician, I\u2019m especially proud that this year\u2019s Road Run will benefit our Emergency\u00a0Department,\u201d said Dr. Charles F. Barbera, Reading Hospital president and CEO. \u201cI\u2019m grateful to our team and the community for coming together to support this event and the exceptional care we provide to our patients and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n
