{"id":317261,"date":"2026-10-30T00:38:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-30T00:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/317261\/"},"modified":"2026-10-30T00:38:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T00:38:07","slug":"reflecting-on-impact-of-superstorm-sandy-in-pittsburgh-area-14-years-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/317261\/","title":{"rendered":"Reflecting on impact of \u2018Superstorm Sandy\u2019 in Pittsburgh area, 14 years later"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">PITTSBURGH \u2014 14 years ago today, the remnants of \u201cSuperstorm\u201d Sandy rolled through our area, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts near 50 mph.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The storm was briefly a Category 3 Hurricane over the Caribbean before it moved north and eventually took a left turn and made landfall along South Jersey on October 29th. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Impacts were far greater for areas to our east, while the lack of rain that month led only to some rises in creeks and streams in our area. Just over three inches of rain officially fell at Pittsburgh International.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The biggest story for our viewing area was the heavy snow that fell on the back side of the storm.
