{"id":31872,"date":"2025-11-12T09:36:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T09:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/31872\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T09:36:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T09:36:08","slug":"scranton-women-take-down-cortland-scranton-times-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/31872\/","title":{"rendered":"Scranton women take down Cortland \u2013 Scranton Times-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four double-figure scorers and a dominant defensive effort enabled the University of Scranton women\u2019s basketball team to defeat SUNY-Cortland, 69-50, in a NCAA Division III top-10 matchup Tuesday night in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Kaci Kranson led the Lady Royals (2-0), ranked No. 2 by d3hoops.com, with 23 points. Elizabeth Bennett followed with 11 points, while Katie Gorski and Meghan Lamanna each scored 10.<\/p>\n<p>Scranton never trailed as a 3-pointer by Kranson and layup by Gorski in the opening 79 seconds gave the Lady Royals a 5-0 lead. With the defense forcing 11 first-half turnovers, they led at halftime, 46-28. All 10 of Gorski\u2019s points came in the opening 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half, the Lady Royals kept rolling. Their largest lead was 21 points on two occasions, the second of which was 60-39 with 2:41 left in the third quarter following a pair of Bennett free throws. They wound up forcing 20 turnovers for the game.<\/p>\n<p>Kaeli McAnally led Cortland, which is ranked No. 7 by d3hoops.com, with 13 points. Brooke Tillotson added 12.<\/p>\n<p>Marywood 80, PSU-Harrisburg 60: At Scranton, Olivia Ciullo led five players in double figures with 15 points as Marywood knocked off Penn State-Harrisburg at Insalaco Arena for its first win of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Tamari Hubbard added 14 points for the Pacers (1-2). Jewlya McCullon and Anyah Ortiz scored 13 points apiece and Mia Blume finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists.<\/p>\n<p>Marywood closed the first quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 23-14 lead. The Pacers led at halftime, 40-32, then opened the third quarter by scoring the first 11 points. Hubbard had a basket before Blume hit two 3-pointers and Ortiz one. Their largest lead was 79-51 on an Ortiz free throw with 4:07 left in the fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Montgomery College 68, Lackawanna 53: At Scranton, Imani Dennis totaled 29 points and 10 steals and Montgomery College from Maryland forced 30 Lackawanna College turnovers to win a NJCAA nonregion game at the Lackawanna College Student Union.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Johns led Lackawanna (0-2) with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Sophia Summa contributed 12 points, four assists, four steals and four rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>Centenary 77, Wilkes 47: At Hackettstown, New Jersey, Wilkes trailed by double digits at the half and never recovered in a road loss to Centenary University.<\/p>\n<p>Maliyah Warren led Wilkes (1-1) with 15 points and six rebounds, while Yamirelis Matos added eight points. Centenary led by three points at the end of the first quarter and held a 35-23 advantage at the half.<\/p>\n<p>Wilkes shot 28.0% from the floor for the game, including 5 of 22 from beyond the 3-point line. It is back in action Friday night at home against Saint Elizabeth University.<\/p>\n<p>Men\u2019s basketball<\/p>\n<p>At Wilkes-Barre, Wilkes University picked up its second consecutive victory, defeating King\u2019s College, 79-68, on Tuesday night in nonconference men\u2019s basketball at the Marts Center.<\/p>\n<p>Scranton Prep graduate Dan Santaniello scored a game-high 20, while Lucas Lesko added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Colonels (2-0).<\/p>\n<p>Santaniello scored 10 of his points in the first half, while Lesko had eight as the Colonels shot 48.5% from the floor and made all three of their free throws to lead, 37-30, at the half. Ben Rodner-Tims and Jake Karnish each scored seven points for King\u2019s in the first half, which shot 38.7% from the floor.<\/p>\n<p>Wilkes led by 23 points with 9:04 left in the second half. King\u2019s began to chip away at the deficit, but could not get any closer down the stretch.<\/p>\n<p>King\u2019s largest lead came in the first half when it was up by five points.<\/p>\n<p>Rodner-Tims led the Monarchs (1-1) with 17 points and six assists.
