“Japanese people value harmony, respect, and consideration for others…The idea of balance between old and new is what shapes our culture today.” –\u00a0Fujita Kazumasa<\/p>\n

Global Insights finishes fall semester with a presentation by ALLEX Foundation Japanese instructor, Fujita Kazumasa, who will present Japan, Thursday, Nov. 20, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Rose Room, Brennan Hall 509.<\/p>\n

All students, staff, and faculty are invited to the free lunch-and-learn program. Cultural cuisine will be provided. Registration is required.<\/p>\n

What’s one interesting fact about Japan you will discuss in your presentation?<\/p>\n

I would like to share the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, which means finding beauty in simplicity and imperfection. It reveals a lot about the Japanese way of thinking and appreciation of life.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite activity in Japan?<\/p>\n

I love visiting local festivals all around Japan. Each one has its own dance, music and food, and they really show community spirit and joy of Japanese culture.<\/p>\n

\"Fujita-japan\"What do you miss\/enjoy most about being in Japan?<\/p>\n

I miss Japanese food, especially, sushi.<\/p>\n

Where is your favorite place to visit?<\/p>\n

My favorite place to visit is Yakushima Island which is located in Kyushu area. It inspired the forest in “Princess Mononoke in Gibli” animation. The ancient cedar trees there make you feel the deep connection between nature and spirituality.<\/p>\n

Briefly describe the people and culture. What values or traditions help to shape both?<\/p>\n

Japanese people value harmony, respect and consideration for others. These values can be seen in everything – from how we speak to how we work and live together. The idea of balance between old and new is what shapes our culture today.<\/p>\n
