The Bach Choir of Bethlehem<\/p>\n
For the first time ever, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem<\/a>, America\u2019s oldest Bach choir, and the Allentown Band<\/a>, America\u2019s oldest civilian concert band, will join for a combined performance.<\/p>\n The Bach Choir and the Allentown Band will present \u201cAmericans We Tribute to Veterans\u201d holiday concert<\/a> at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Miller Symphony Hall<\/a> in Allentown.<\/p>\n The free concert will honor all veterans, including honorees selected by the Lehigh Valley Veterans History Project representing World War II, the Korean conflict, and the wars in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n The centerpiece of this year\u2019s concert is \u201cA Testament of Freedom,\u201d composed by Randall Thompson in 1943. Thompson set passages from the writings of Thomas Jefferson to music to honor the bicentennial of Jefferson’s birth. The four-movement piece uses texts from Jefferson’s writings, including \u201cA Summary View of the Rights of British America\u201d and his \u201cDeclaration of Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms.\u201d<\/p>\n The program also will include Ryan Nowlin\u2019s \u201cLet Freedom Ring,\u201d Claude T. Smith\u2019s \u201cEternal Father Strong to Save (Melita),\u201d and\u00a0 \u201cA Rhapsody on Christmas Carols;\u201d Alfred Reed\u2019s\u00a0 \u201cA Christmas Intrada,\u201d John Williams\u2019 \u201cHymn to the Fallen\u201d from \u201cSaving Private Ryan,\u201d Hayman\/Reisteter\u2019s \u201cSalute to the Armed Forces,\u201d and John Philip Sousa\u2019s \u201cStars and Stripes Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n There also will be special honors and recognition of individual veterans.<\/p>\n The Allentown Band is conducted by Ronald Demkee; The Bach Choir is conducted by Christopher Jackson.<\/p>\n Tickets are free but must be reserved online<\/a>.<\/p>\n Allentown Band<\/p>\n Pulitzer Prize play at Lehigh<\/p>\n The Lehigh University Department of Theatre will present \u201cThe Flick\u201d at Zoellner Arts Center<\/a>, which is located at 420 E. Packer Ave. in Bethlehem.<\/p>\n Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama, \u201cThe Flick<\/a>,\u201d written by Annie Baker, captures the quiet beauty of everyday life. Set in a crumbling movie theater, this masterfully observed play follows three employees as they sweep popcorn and navigate the delicate terrain of friendship, heartbreak, and longing for something more. Lehigh University senior Zo\u00eb Miller directs.<\/p>\n Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Nov. 14 and 15 and Nov. 19, 20, and 21, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n Tickets cost $12. The Nov. 19 performance is pay-what-you-wish.\u00a0<\/p>\n City mouse in Easton<\/p>\n Lafayette College\u2019s theater department will present \u201cStuart Little<\/a>\u201d on Saturday at Weiss Theater in Buck Hall, which is located at 219 N. Third St. in Easton.<\/p>\n Joseph Robinette has adapted a charming version of the beloved E. B. White story of Stuart Little, the New York City mouse with a human family.<\/p>\n The play, featuring members of the theater 335 class, will be presented to students in the Easton Area School District in celebration of Lafayette\u2019s 200th anniversary of rewarding collaborations with the surrounding community.\u00a0<\/p>\n The two performances, at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., will be free and open to the public (appropriate for audiences ages 5 and up).<\/p>\n The endearing classic is about a mouse named Stuart, who is born into an ordinary New York family. All the charm, wisdom, and joy of the E.B. White original are captured in this adaptation by Robinette, who also dramatized the highly acclaimed stage version of \u201cCharlotte’s Web.\u201d The many adventures of Stuart are brought vividly to life in this story theater presentation. The acting ensemble plays many human and animal roles in a series of delightful scenes that make up the marvelous maneuverings of a mild-mannered mouse trying to survive in a \u201creal people’s world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cStuart Little\u201d is directed by Mary Jo Lodge.<\/p>\n RSO at Santander<\/p>\n The Reading Symphony Orchestra<\/a> will perform \u201cEine kleine Nachtmusik & Elgar Cello Concerto<\/a>\u201d at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Santander Performing Arts Center, which is located at 136 N. Sixth St. in downtown Reading.\u00a0<\/p>\n An evening of elegance and passion awaits as Mozart\u2019s beloved \u201cEine kleine Nachtmusik\u201d sets the stage for Elgar\u2019s deeply expressive Cello Concerto, performed by cellist Amy Ward Butler.\u00a0<\/p>\n The audience can immerse itself in the warmth and lyricism of Brahms\u2019 sweeping Symphony No. 2, a radiant masterpiece of warmth and grandeur that balances pastoral beauty with symphonic power. Often called his \u201csunny symphony,\u201d this work unfolds with rich melodies, soaring orchestration, and a sense of calm optimism, culminating in a jubilant finale.\u00a0<\/p>\n Featured will be a special guest appearance by the RSO\u2019s youth orchestra. Andrew Constantine is conductor.<\/p>\n Tickets start at $25.<\/p>\n Magic of Broadway<\/p>\n The Reading Choral Society<\/a> will present \u201cThe Magic of Broadway\u201d at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, which is located at 201 Washington St. in downtown Reading.\u00a0<\/p>\n Under the direction of music director, Graham Bier, the society will be singing many favorite Broadway tunes, including selections from \u201cWicked\u201d and \u201cHamilton.\u201d<\/p>\n Soloists will be society members. Accompanist is Mary Bishop.<\/p>\n The church\u2019s parking lot entrance is on North Fifth Street.<\/p>\n Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students.<\/p>\n Celtic band in Emmaus<\/p>\n St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church<\/a> in Emmaus, Lehigh County, will host \u201cAn Evening of Celtic Music with Poor Man’s Gambit<\/a>\u201d at 7 p.m. on Friday. The church is located at 150 Elm St.<\/p>\n The event will feature traditional Celtic music with Poor Man’s Gambit, a local favorite known for lively jigs and soulful ballads.<\/p>\n Poor Man’s Gambit is a trio that blends Celtic tradition with modern energy, featuring fiddle, accordion, guitar, and lively foot percussion.<\/p>\n Tickets cost $15. All proceeds support St. Margaret\u2019s programs and community outreach.<\/p>\n JCC goes to Oz<\/p>\n Stagemakers<\/a>, the youth theater group at the Jewish Community Center<\/a> in Allentown, will stage \u201cThe Wizard of Oz<\/a>.\u201d The JCC is located at 702 N. 22nd St.<\/p>\n The audience will join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they \u201cFollow the Yellow Brick Road\u201d through the Land of Oz, determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Of course, along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees, and winged monkeys.
