An investigation is underway, officials said, after a woman was hurt by broken glass when her car was shot multiple times as she drove through Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood early Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, officers responded to the 1300 block of South Paxton Street at about 1 a.m. on Thursday after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a 20-year-old woman who had injuries to her face following a shooting.<\/p>\n
Investigators learned that the woman wasn’t injured by gunfire, but was instead hurt by broken glass when her car was shot at as she drove through the city’s Kingsessing neighborhood.<\/p>\n
The woman’s uncle, Darryl Buck, told NBC10 his niece was looking for a parking spot near her family’s home when another car pulled up and a gunman inside the vehicle opened fire. <\/p>\n
“She was coming over here to do her sister’s hair and she said a car slowly pulled up and opened up fire,” Buck said. <\/p>\n

The woman told police she continued on to Paxton Street to get help from family members at a property there. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where, officials said, she was placed in stable condition. She was later released from the hospital. <\/p>\n
Investigators, Small said, found nine shell casings at a scene along Greenway Avenue and found three bullet holes through the driver’s side window of the woman’s Chevy sedan. Another bullet hole could be seen in the vehicle’s driver’s side mirror, leaving a gouge in the edge of the door frame. <\/p>\n
Police have not yet determined a motive and did not provide a description of any suspects in this incident, but Small said investigators believe the incident may have been captured on surveillance cameras in the area.<\/p>\n
“She’s just scared,” Buck said. “She’s frightened. She’s upset because she doesn’t know why. No one knows why.” <\/p>\n
