WASHINGTON \u2014 Sen. John Fetterman<\/a> was hospitalized \u201cout of an abundance of caution\u201d after falling and hitting his face during a morning walk near his home in Braddock, Pa., his office announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

Doctors diagnosed the Pennsylvania Democrat <\/a>with a \u201cventricular fibrillation flare-up,\u201d meaning his heart wasn\u2019t pumping blood correctly\u00a0due to an irregular\u00a0heartbeat.\u00a0It can be life-threatening.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is doing well and receiving routine observation at the hospital,\u201d Fetterman\u2019s office continued. \u201cHe has opted to stay so doctors can fine-tune his medication regimen. Senator Fetterman is grateful for the EMTs, doctors, and nurses who are providing his care.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old was \u201cfeeling light-headed\u201d and suffered unspecified minor injuries from the fall.\u00a0He received\u00a0treatment at a\u00a0Pittsburgh hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you thought my face looked bad before,\u201d Fetterman quipped in a statement, \u201cwait until you see it now!\u201d<\/p>\n

The accident took place two days after the publication of the Democrat\u2019s memoir, \u201cUnfettered,\u201d which relates his various health problems \u2014 including a battle with depression early in his term.<\/p>\n

Fetterman survived a stroke back in 2022<\/a>, months before his election to the Senate.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Fetterman was hospitalized for two days after feeling light-headed.<\/p>\n

A few weeks after that, he checked himself into\u00a0Walter Reed Military Medical Center, where he received treatment for six weeks for clinical depression.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the hulking senator was in his home state of Pennsylvania at the time of his fall after voting with Republicans on Monday to reopen the government and end the record-breaking shutdown.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Keystone\u00a0State senator has been on a media tour this week to promote his book, opening up about his recovery process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fetterman\u2019s stroke left him with an auditory processing impairment that has made it difficult for him to communicate, though he has made significant improvements over the past three years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt changed my life,\u201d Fetterman recalled of\u00a0his stroke during an interview on\u00a0\u201cCBS Morning\u201d this week, in which he also talked of his struggle with depression.<\/p>\n
