Moravian University<\/a> opened its doors to Bethlehem community members and local officials on Thursday to showcase its new student center, which the school plans to make available for public use.<\/p>\n

The 82,000-square-foot Haupert Union Building, called the HUB, opened to the campus community on Oct. 8. <\/p>\n

The facility, on the university\u2019s Main Street campus in Bethlehem, focuses on student wellness but will also serve as event and conference space for regional organizations.<\/p>\n

University President Bryon Grigsby welcomed guests to the WELL pre-certified building during the open house.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe HUB is a building designed for the \u2018whole student\u2019 \u2014 a place where wellness, career preparation, community and belonging all converge,\u201d Grigsby said.<\/p>\n

The center houses resources for students\u2019 mental, physical and academic needs. The Laurie Riley \u201982 Center for Career Success occupies the first floor.<\/p>\n

Nicole Loyd, the university\u2019s executive vice president, chief operating officer and dean of students, said the building connects the university with the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe HUB stands as a bridge between Moravian and Bethlehem \u2014 a place where service, learning, and leadership intersect,\u201d Loyd said.<\/p>\n

Community organizations, corporations and school districts can book the HUB\u2019s event and conference spaces for meetings, workshops and other functions.<\/p>\n

Students also spoke during the open house about what the center means to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis building is the future of Moravian,\u201d said Ava Ferentinos, an early childhood and special education major in the class of 2027.<\/p>\n
