WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013\u00a0This week the\u00a0House will vote on a bill that would compel the\u00a0Justice\u00a0Department to release all documents related to the\u00a0Jeffrey\u00a0Epstein\u00a0case. This case has\u00a0consumed\u00a0Capitol\u00a0Hill for months.\u00a0The\u00a0President now reversing his stance on this measure.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Last week\u00a0President\u00a0Trump called these efforts to release the files a\u00a0\u201choax\u201d\u00a0and there\u2019s reporting that the administration tried to personally talk to\u00a0Republican supporters\u00a0of the discharge petition,\u00a0to take their name off the petition.\u00a0Since\u00a0then,\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0done a complete reversal on this.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Over the weekend, the\u00a0President shared on\u00a0Truth\u00a0Social\u00a0that\u00a0House\u00a0Republicans should support releasing the files related to the late convicted sex\u00a0offender.\u00a0He also adds that we \u201chave nothing to hide\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Last week a lot unfolded surrounding this case. Lawmakers on the\u00a0House\u00a0Oversight\u00a0Committee released more than\u00a020-thousand\u00a0emails that\u00a0belonged\u00a0to\u00a0Epstein. One of the\u00a0emails wrote that\u00a0President\u00a0Trump had spent hours at his house with one of the victims. Other reporting from the\u00a0New\u00a0York\u00a0Times said\u00a0that there were other messages that suggested that\u00a0Epstein\u00a0believed\u00a0Trump knew more about\u00a0Epstein\u2019s abuse than\u00a0Trump\u00a0acknowledged. The\u00a0President has repeatedly denied any involvement in or knowledge of\u00a0Epstein\u2019s\u00a0sex-trafficking operation.\u00a0Trump\u00a0has also said he and\u00a0Epstein\u00a0were once friendly but had a falling out.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The president was asked if he\u00a0will\u00a0sign the bill if congress approves it.\u00a0Trump\u00a0said he\u00a0would\u00a0but he also adds that he\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0want there to be a lot of focus on the\u00a0Epstein\u00a0issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u00a0I\u00a0just\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want\u00a0Epstein\u00a0to do is detract from the\u00a0great success\u00a0of the\u00a0Republican party,\u201d said Trump.\u00a0\u201cIncluding the fact that the\u00a0Democrats are totally to blame for the shutdown. They cost our country hundreds\u00a0of billions of dollars with a lot of inconvenience so\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0for\u00a0they can do whatever they want.\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0give them\u00a0everything-\u00a0sure\u00a0I\u00a0would. Let them, let the\u00a0Senate look at it,\u00a0let anyone look at it\u00a0but\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0talk about it too much because\u00a0honestly\u00a0I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want it to take it away from us.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
