{"id":37521,"date":"2025-11-18T12:44:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T12:44:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/37521\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T12:44:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T12:44:06","slug":"philadelphia-macys-building-to-host-opera-for-the-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/37521\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia Macy\u2019s building to host opera for the holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Opera Philadelphia is inviting the city to come \u201cHome for the Holidays,\u201d which in this case is the brass eagle inside the vacant Grand Court of the former Macy\u2019s department store in Center City.\n<\/p>\n<p>The holiday-themed concert on Dec. 2 will feature <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/opera-philadelphia-wanamaker-organ\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra<\/a> and its chorus accompanied by the Wanamaker pipe organ along with two soloists: soprano and Philadelphia native Leah Hawkins and countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, who is also president and director of Opera Philadelphia.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll be a great holiday concert including \u2018(There\u2019s No Place Like) Home for the Holidays\u2019 and other popular songs, and of course classical things that have holiday connections,\u201d Costanzo said. \u201cAs well as excerpts from David Ludwig\u2019s \u2018Hanukkah Cantata,\u2019 which is fantastic.
