An Archbald woman accused of causing a crash that resulted in the death of an elderly bicyclist, waived her charges to Lackawanna County Court Tuesday.<\/p>\n
At about 10:30 a.m. on Sept, 21, Diane Fontana, 74, struck Raymond Bacchiocchi, 79, of Peckville, with her vehicle and fled, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
At about 1:30 p.m., Fontana appeared at the Blakely police station parking lot. She told officers she was driving to St. Michael\u2019s Church in Jessup for her uncle\u2019s funeral and was running late at the time of the incident, police charge.<\/p>\n
Officers noted she showed no remorse.<\/p>\n
Police charged Fontana with accidents involving death or personal injury, failure to stop and render aid, failure to notify police of an accident involving injury or death, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.<\/p>\n
The charge of involving death or personal injury was upgraded Tuesday from a third degree felony to a second degree felony, according to Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 21, Officers responded to the intersection of Main and Bridge streets in Blakely around 10:15 a.m., police said. Upon arrival, they found an elderly man \u2014 who was unresponsive and bleeding from the head \u2014 face down in the road next to a bicycle, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Emergency medical technicians arrived along with police and began rendering aid and attempting to resuscitate Bacchiocchi, officers said. He was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center and died Saturday night, police said.<\/p>\n
