BIRDSBORO, Pa. – A local animal shelter is being honored for its dedication to saving lives.<\/p>\n
The Animal Rescue League of Berks County has been officially recognized as a ‘no-kill’ shelter.<\/p>\n
Officials from the Best Friends Animal Society awarded the distinction today.<\/p>\n
It says the ARL achieved a 90% save rate in 2024.<\/p>\n
“Only 10-percent of the animals that come in don’t leave alive, but it’s unfortunately because of medical conditions we cannot treat or because of behavior reasons that are unsafe for the public. So no animals are euthanized for space, which is a common challenge in shelters,” says Ashley Mikulsky, the CEO of Animal Rescue League of Berks County.<\/p>\n
The ARL adopted a no-kill philosophy in 2018.<\/p>\n
