Today, it includes over 40,000 eateries in 24 countries and territories.

The company’s first North American Guide was released in 2005, and in May officials announced that Philadelphia and Boston would be added to the Northeast Cities guide that was previously limited to Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Restaurants must undergo multiple inspections by anonymous reviewers to test the food’s quality, flavor, cooking techniques, consistency and how a chef’s personality appears in the food.
