BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA \u2014 She was born in England, but cricket isn’t her game.<\/p>\n

Jean Spencer Batten is the “No. 1 fan” of the Philadelphia Phillies, according to U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, who joined her to celebrate Batten’s 100th birthday.<\/p>\n

“What an honor to celebrate the remarkable Jean Spencer Batten, one of (my district’s) most special treasures and the Phillies<\/a>‘ #1 fan, on her 100th birthday,” the congressman said.<\/p>\n

Batten was born in Northampton, England, in 1925.<\/p>\n

She met U.S. Air Force serviceman Robert Batten at a dance while he was stationed in London during World War II.<\/p>\n

They married in September 1946 and set sail on a seven-day transatlantic journey to begin their “American dream” in Bucks County, Fitzpatrick said.<\/p>\n

“Bob Batten built their home in Bensalem with his own hands, and together they raised a beautiful family, filling their days with laughter, love, faith, and adventure until his passing in 1997,” Fitzpatrick said.<\/p>\n

So what is Batten’s secret to a long, happy life?<\/p>\n

\u201cA green vegetable at every dinner. One cookie to \u2018cue the end of the meal.\u2019 And a gin and tonic at 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays,” she replied.<\/p>\n
