WYOMISSING, Pa. – A longstanding tradition in Wyomissing may have to be put on hold for the upcoming winter recreation season.<\/p>\n

According to a post on the borough’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page, ice skating at the Stone House Pond is unlikely to take place this winter.<\/p>\n

Throughout the fall, public works staff conducted thorough inspections to locate leaks and address deterioration in the pond’s lining. Inspectors found that the age and condition of the pond\u2019s blacktop lining have led to widespread cracks and crevices, producing multiple leaks across the surface.<\/p>\n

Given the scope of the deterioration, borough officials say a permanent repair will be a more complex project than initially anticipated. Work to fully rehabilitate the pond\u2019s lining will be suspended for the time being while long-term options and funding are evaluated.<\/p>\n

While the underground water source will continue to keep the pond full, officials say the conditions needed for safe ice skating cannot be guaranteed this winter.<\/p>\n
