“Pied tamarins practice alloparenting, where multiple family members help to care for the infants,” zoo officials wrote. “In fact, in pied tamarin families, it’s the dad who primarily carries the babies on his back!”<\/p>\n
Pied tamarins are considered critically endangered in the wild, so the births were hailed as important steps for conservation.<\/p>\n
The sexes of the new babies have not yet been determined by zookeepers, so names will be chosen at a later date.<\/p>\n
