{"id":40911,"date":"2025-11-21T19:06:22","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T19:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/40911\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T19:06:22","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T19:06:22","slug":"puc-sets-hearings-on-ppls-7-rate-increase-request-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/40911\/","title":{"rendered":"PUC sets hearings on PPL&#8217;s 7% rate increase request"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has scheduled four in-person hearings and two telephone hearings in December to gather public input on PPL Electric Utilities Corporation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingeagle.com\/2025\/10\/01\/ppl-requests-base-rate-hike\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">proposed 7% residential rate increase<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the Allentown-based utility requested an annual base rate increase of $356.3 million per year that would increase total annual revenue by 8.6%. PPL serves about 1.5 million customers in 29 counties, including Berks, Chester, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Montgomery, Northampton and Schuylkill.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingeagle.com\/2025\/10\/23\/pennsylvania-public-utility-commission-to-investigate-ppls-proposed-rate-hike\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PUC voted 5-0 in October<\/a> to investigate the proposed rate increase, which could raise a total residential monthly bill by about 7%. A residential customer using 918 kWh per month would see an increase to $189.40 from $177.01.<\/p>\n<p>The company said commercial customers could see an increase of about 3.1%, and industrial customers could see an increase of about 2.6%.<\/p>\n<p>A final PUC decision on PPL\u2019s request is due by July 1.<\/p>\n<p>The following is the schedule for the in-person hearings:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., Scranton University Brennan Hall, Rose Rose Room, fifth floor, 320 Madison Ave., Scranton.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Dec. 9 at 6 p.m., Catasauqua Municipal Building, borough hall, 90 Bridge St., Catasauqua.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Dec. 10 at 6 p.m., Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Keystone Building, Hearing Room #1, 400 North St., Harrisburg.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Dec. 11 at 6 p.m., Manheim Township Public Library, Morgan Center, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster.<\/p>\n<p>Two telephone hearings will be held at the following times:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Dec. 15 at 1 and 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Information to participate: Dial the toll-free conference number, 866-421-8851; enter PIN number, 66640466; give your name when prompted and press #.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Participants in the telephone hearings are encouraged to register by 4 p.m. on Dec. 11.
