A\u00a0Michigan\u00a0man has been charged after he allegedly drove more than 700 miles to\u00a0Pennsylvania\u00a0and started a house fire.<\/p>\n
Harrison Jones, 21, of\u00a0Rockford, has been charged in\u00a0Bensalem Township\u00a0with six counts of attempted homicide and arson.<\/p>\n
The charges come after a two-story home in the 5200 block of\u00a0Merganser Way\u00a0was destroyed at\u00a05:22 a.m.\u00a0on\u00a0Feb. 10. Six adults were forced to evacuate the residence, some of which jumped from second-story windows. Two dogs died in the blaze, police said.<\/p>\n
Surveillance footage showed a suspect exiting a 2021 Volkswagen Passat and approaching the residence at\u00a05:01 a.m.\u00a0The suspect then runs back to the vehicle 15 minutes later as smoke begins billowing from the home.<\/p>\n
Within 30 seconds, a large explosion occurs, and the house became engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n
Police used the vehicle\u2019s license plate to identify Jones and determined that he is the ex-boyfriend of a 21-year-old female who recently engaged in an online relationship with a 22-year-old who lives at the residence on\u00a0Merganser Way.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe drove over 730 miles \u2014 11 hours \u2014 to do what he did and drove directly back home,\u201d\u00a0William McVay,\u00a0Bensalem Township\u00a0Director of Public Safety, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis family was extremely lucky to survive this. It is clear to us that\u00a0Mr. Jones\u00a0had murderous intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Kent County Sheriff\u2019s Office assisted in the arrest of Jones. They seized the Passat, lock-picking devices, a cell phone, and computer. He also had what appeared to be burns on his arm, deputies said.<\/p>\n
He is awaiting extradition back to\u00a0Bucks County, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would especially like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the\u00a0Bensalem Township\u00a0Police Officers, Fire Investigators, and\u00a0Bensalem\u00a0Detectives who took a grainy image of a vehicle and turned it into the arrest of a suspect who traveled over 700 miles and 11+ hours each way to commit crimes that nearly cost six people their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
